With a dismissive snort, Fleming turned and strode away with his men.
As the commotion subsided, Maloney turned to Bryson, who stood across from him. After exchanging looks, Maloney approached Hannah.
“I noticed you were eyeing Roland’s car earlier. Did you spot something?”
“Not yet,” Hannah replied, turning back. “I need to take another look.”
She hadn’t inspected Fleming’s car tire yet.
Hannah requested the staff to flip the car and knelt to meticulously examine the tire.
Suddenly, she noticed something amiss.
“Come over here, take a look at this!” she called out.
Upon hearing that, a few people who were standing off at a distance decided to join the party.
Hannah dove right in, using her bare hands to pluck out a nail from Roland’s tire.
The nail looked pretty stealthy, blending in with the tire so well you could easily miss it.
“It looks Like a pushpin or something,” she observed.
Holding it up, Hannah said, “It’s bigger than a pushpin but a sneaky little thing when it’s stuck in a tire.”
Maloney took the nail from Hannah, giving it a close inspection.
“How’d this end up on the track?”
Hannah bent down, checking all four tires and found more of those sneaky nails wedged into the tires.
Showing the nails around, she couldn’t believe it.
“Even if Roland didn’t spot it, the racing crew would have checked the car before the race.”
And these nails were deep in. They looked like they had not been put in by any tool but looked like they were picked up from the ground by the tires.
Hannah showed the nails to Remington, asking, “Don’t you guys check the track for junk before racing?”
Remington’s face went cold as Hannah pulled out the nails.
